Welsh Language Classes
The Madog Center for Welsh Studies offers Welsh language Classes for community members at a workshop rate of $165 for 16 weeks of classes. All classes ar held on Zoom and meet for 90 minutes. No credit is given for these classes. All courses use the National Center for Welsh Language’s curriculum and textbooks.
E-mail us at welsh@rio.edu to join our waiting list for Welsh classes. We usually accept students twice a year (January and September) depending on the level of the individual and tutor availability.
Welsh Entry 1 (Mynediad 1)
Suitable for beginners and those with little or no Welsh. A complete beginner’s introduction to conversational Welsh, focusing on simple everyday language, greetings, and basic sentence patterns.
Starts August 25, 2026. Dydd Mawrth (Tuesday) 7:30pm EST / 6:30pm CST / 5:30pm MST / 4:30pm PST

Welsh Entry 2 (Mynediad 2)
Follow on from Welsh Entry 1. Builds confidence using beginner Welsh in everyday situations, expanding vocabulary and introducing more practical speaking patterns.
Starts August 24, 2026. Dydd Llun (Monday) 7:30pm EST / 6:30pm CST / 5:30pm MST / 4:30pm PST

Welsh Foundation 1 (Sylfaen 1)
Follow on from Welsh Entry 2. Develops core grammar and communication skills so learners can hold longer conversations about familiar topics with increasing confidence.
