Located on the ground floor of Davis Library, the Jenkins Academic Center is where you will find writing assistance, tutoring, test preparation, a group study area, and an open computer lab. All services are provided for free to Rio students.

The Jenkins Academic Center’s professional tutoring and learning support staff can also help you build skills in study skills and test prep, managing time more efficiently, improving reading comprehension, and gaining skills to effectively take notes for studying success.  

Students can also take advantage of the online paper review via the OPS program (online paper submission). Students can email their papers to jenkinscenter@rio.edu as a Word Document with a description of the assignment and receive feedback from a writing tutor. Students should allow 24 hours for the return of their paper, a 72-hour window if submitted late Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday/Sunday. We encourage students to submit papers at least two days before an assignment is due. Papers may not be reviewed if submitted on the due date.

Both remote and in-person appointments are available. Remote appointments are conducted through Microsoft Teams. If students do now receive an invitation to a scheduled teams meeting an hour before their tutoring session is to occur, they should contact the Jenkins Center through email at jenkinscenter@rio.edu or call Adam Hollingshead at (740)-245-7333.

In addition to tutoring services and writing assistance offered at the Jenkins Academic Center students have free access to the online learning support service BrainFuse. BrainFuse offers tutoring in a variety of subjects and writing assistance services 24/7. The link to BrainFuse is located on the navigation bar in all Canvas classroom platforms.
