Rio Launches Post-Master’s Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Nurses
University of Rio Grande is expanding educational opportunities for nursing professionals with the introduction of a new Post-Master’s Certificate in Teaching and Learning, a specialized program designed to prepare experienced nurses for educator roles in academic and healthcare settings.
As the demand for qualified nurse educators continues to grow nationwide, the certificate offers master's-prepared nurses an opportunity to develop formal expertise in teaching, curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation. The program is ideal for nurses who are clinical experts and want to transition into education, training, leadership, or faculty positions.
“Nursing programs across the country face an ongoing shortage of qualified faculty,” said Dr. David Lawrence, Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs at Rio.
“This certificate program was developed to help bridge that gap by equipping master's-prepared nurses with the pedagogical skills needed to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
Ideal candidates are master’s-prepared nursing professionals seeking to expand their careers into education. This includes nursing faculty, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, and nurses working in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and other healthcare settings who want to develop the skills needed for educator roles.
The certificate program is structured to accommodate working professionals through a hybrid delivery. Most students can complete the program in nine months to one year, providing a convenient pathway to career advancement without stepping away from professional responsibilities.
The new program is the latest in Rio’s ongoing commitment to advancing education and addressing workforce needs. By providing advanced preparation in teaching and learning, the program empowers experienced nurses to share their expertise, mentor future healthcare professionals, and contribute to the continued strength of the nursing profession.
