Dr. Katie Moleski’s Research Recognized

Dr. Katie Moleski, Assistant Professor of Sports and Exercise Studies at Rio, has received recognition for her contributions to the field of intercollegiate athletics research. Her article, “Factors that Influence the Academic Success of College Athletes Participating in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics,” has been named one of the top 10 most cited articles in 2025 by the Journal of Intercollegiate Sport.

The research was co-authored with B. David Ridpath and Lijing Yang of Ohio University and focuses on the factors that contribute to academic achievement among college athletes competing in the NAIA. 

“This reflects the growing impact of Dr. Moleski’s work in shaping conversations around student-athlete success,” said President Ryan Smith. “Being among the most cited articles signals that her research is not only widely read but is also actively informing ongoing studies, policies, and practices within collegiate athletics.”
