Kristen Mershon Named Director of Rio’s Pike Center

Rio Grande Community College has announced Kristen Mershon as the new Director of its Pike Center. Mershon will continue serving in her current role as Director of Rio’s Jackson Center, providing leadership at both regional locations and further strengthening Rio’s commitment to accessible, affordable higher education across southeastern Ohio.

Mershon brings a strong background in student support and success, having previously served as a financial aid adviser and as one of the institution’s first student success coaches. Her experience working closely with students, faculty, and staff has prepared her to lead both centers and expand educational opportunities in the communities they serve.

“During my tenure at Rio, I have worked with all aspects of the student experience and developed strong relationships with our faculty and staff,” Mershon said. “I’m honored to serve both centers and look forward to helping students access the resources and support they need to achieve their educational goals.”

The Pike Center, located in Piketon, was established through a public-private partnership to bring accessible, affordable higher education to Pike County and surrounding communities. The center offers general education courses, an associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, and College Credit Plus opportunities for high school students. Thanks to scholarships and grant support, many students are able to pursue their education with little to no out-of-pocket cost.

“Rio plays an important role in expanding access to higher education throughout our region,” Mershon said. “These centers provide students with the opportunity to stay close to home while building a strong foundation for their future.”

Registration is open and the Summer semester will begin in June. For more information about the Rio Grande Pike Center, visit www.rio.edu/pike or call 740-245-7150.
