Rio Welcomes Record Enrollment for Fall 2025
9/23/25
University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College announced an 11% increase in enrollment this fall, raising the total student body to 2,641.
The record enrollment surpasses Rio’s previous high of 2,582 students in 2004.
“We are proud to see Rio continuing to grow as the needs of students and communities evolve,” said Rio President Ryan Smith. “Last spring, we celebrated the largest graduating class in our 149-year history, a direct reflection of the commitment our faculty and staff make every day to provide students with an exceptional experience.”
Rio has saw significant growth in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when colleges nationwide saw enrollment decline.
Rio’s student population has grown by 42% since the university launched an affordability plan in 2021 that lowered tuition, room, and board while expanding student support services. The initiative reduced tuition bills by more than 25%, making a four-year degree significantly more affordable.
This sustained growth has been propelled by Rio’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education and adapting to the needs of students.
Enrollment is now open for Rio’s Spring Semester, which starts January 12, at all five of Rio’s locations.
