University of Rio Grande proudly recognizes Dr. Kay-Anne Darlington, Associate Professor of Communications and Director of Honors Program, for her selection for the distinguished Fulbright-Hays Seminar Program and earning the Ohio Educational Resources Grant from OhioLINK.
As part of the Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad Program, Dr. Darlington embarked on a month-long experience in Ghana from June 15 to July 14. With an emphasis on curriculum development, this experience will drive growth professionally with additional exchanges in cultural perspectives, mainly with educators within the Ghanaian community, including visiting the cities of Cape Coast, Accra, and Kumasi. By obtaining increased knowledge of cultural perspectives abroad, she believes the benefit of this experience will directly benefit Rio students with a heightened curriculum in the classroom.
Additionally, Dr. Darlington was recently awarded the Ohio Educational Resources Grant through OhioLINK. As a result of this grant, Dr. Darlington looks forward to the COM 11103: Fundamentals of Speech Communication course at Rio to be zero-cost in the upcoming fall semester: “I plan on piloting a zero-cost version of COM 11103 in Fall 2025. I plan to use feedback from that semester to develop a course template that could be adopted by all COM 11103 instructors, ultimately reducing textbook costs for hundreds of students each year.”
