Rio Slashes Tuition Rates for Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Address Workforce Shortage
5/19/25
In a move to combat the growing national shortage of healthcare professionals, University of Rio Grande has announced a significant reduction in tuition fees for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
Starting this fall, students in the BSN program will benefit from a more than 30% reduction in tuition costs, a decision Rio leadership hopes will remove financial barriers and attract more students to the program.
Alycia Combs, Director of Nursing at Rio, said that by making the BSN program more accessible, Rio hopes to become part of the solution in addressing the workforce shortage.
“Our new $200 per course fee will put more nurses into the workforce with a quality education,” said Combs. “With scholarships, grants, and many employers offering tuition reimbursement, the actual cost for most students will be even less.”
The program is designed for working Registered Nurses wanting to further their nursing career to better serve patients and for those wanting to enter into nurse leadership roles. The only requirement is an active unencumbered valid state license. Rio’s BSN program can be completed full or part-time and are completely online. Students will also have the option of choosing between a Fall or Spring start date.
The tuition reduction applies to both in-state and out-of-state students. Applications for the newly reduced BSN program are now open, with classes beginning in August 2025.
