Rio Honors Excellence in Service and Teaching

University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College is proud to announce the recipients of annual awards recognizing outstanding service and teaching for the 2024–2025 academic year.

Dr. Katie Moleski

Dr. Moleski was selected for both the Raymond C. Matura Service Award and the Edwin A. Jones Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Moleski will receive a cash award, commemorative plaques, and her name will be added to the permanent plaques for both awards.

The Matura award honors a Rio employee who goes beyond the responsibilities of their position to perform activities beneficial to the institution, often without additional compensation. The Excellence in Teaching Award is awarded to an outstanding Rio faculty member who demonstrates professional excellence.

Matthew Elwer

Rio is equally pleased to recognize Matthew Elwer as the Ernie A. Wyant Outstanding Teaching Award winner. The award honors a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding teaching and supports students in achieving academic excellence. Mr. Elwer will receive a cash award, a commemorative plaque, and a permanent place on the Ernie Wyant Outstanding Teaching Award plaque.

“Through the dedication and commitment of faculty and staff like Dr. Moleski and Mr. Elwer, Rio continues to thrive as a place where learning and service are valued and celebrated,” said Dr. David Lawrence, Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs at Rio. “Their examples inspire the entire campus community to strive for excellence both inside and outside the classroom.”
