College Credit Plus

With Ohio’s College Credit Plus Program you can earn college at Rio and high school credit at the same time. Open to high school students in grades 7-12, CCP is a great way to earn college credit or earn a degree for free. Tuition, books, and course fees are at no charge.  The CCP program provides a wide variety of course options here at Rio.

College Credit Plus Eligibility Guidelines:  

New students must meet one of the following criteria for CCP eligibility.

  • Obtain a remediation-free score on one of the standard assessment exams as set forth in paragraph (D)(2) of rule 3333-1-65.3 of the Administrative Code;
  • or Has a cumulative unweighted high school grade point average of at least 3.00; or 
  • Have a cumulative unweighted high school grade point average of at least 2.75 but less than 3.00 and received an “A” or “B” grade in a relevant high school course.

WritePlacer (English): 5 or above
Accuplacer QRAS (Math): 263 or above 

ACT

English: 18 or above
Reading: 22 or above
Math: 22 or above  

Public High School Students: 

Check with the college to see if you are eligible based on the student eligibility standards above. Note: Final transcripts are required for 9th graders before eligibility can be assessed for cumulative unweighted high school grade point average.   

Middle School, Home School, and Non-Public School Students: 

Must show college-level Accuplacer/ACT scores to meet eligibility requirements.

General Program Information Regarding Course Eligibility Rule OAC 3333-1—65-12

“First 15” Rule: Students must complete 15 credit hours in the Level I before advancing to Level II courses. Those courses include:

  • Transferrable courses: Ohio Transfer Module (OTM), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG), Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG)
  • Courses in anatomy, physiology, computer science, information technology, or foreign language, including American Sign Language (ASL)
  • 15 credit hour or 30 credit hour model pathway course
  • Study skills, academic, or career success skills course
  • Technical certificate course
  • Internship course
  • Chancellor may approve other courses on an annual basis.

Non-allowable courses in College Credit Plus:

  • Remedial course and Sectarian religion course
  • Physical education course
  • Study abroad courses
  • Courses with fees that exceed the amount set by the Chancellor
  • One-on-one private instruction courses
  • P/F or S/U grades (unless the course is an internship course or is a transferable course for all students enrolled)

Any other college course that is not listed on a Level I course.
