Growing need for workforce prompted Rio to expand program
Manufacturing across the region is evolving fast, and employers are feeling the strain of a growing skills gap. As facilities expand, modernize, and automate, the need for trained industrial technology professionals has never been greater. Recent significant industrial development projects represent a generational opportunity to support manufacturing and their related operations.
“Our area is undergoing a regional renaissance with more than $10B being invested in significant industrial projects. The companies behind those projects, which include steel production, the energy supply chain, and drone manufacturing, are seeking problem-solvers who can manage advanced equipment, improve processes, and help bridge communication between the production floor and leadership,” said Taylor Stepp, Director of Economic Development at Rio. “A career in industrial technology puts students at the center of exciting companies in demand, opening doors to stable, high-wage roles in production, automation, maintenance, quality control, and logistics.”
Students who pursue industrial technology step into careers where technical knowledge meets leadership opportunity. At Rio, hands-on training with both manual and automated systems, real-world lab experiences, and coursework in manufacturing processes, materials, design, and logistics prepare graduates to make an immediate impact.
Developed with input from industry partners, the program equips students with the practical skills employers need right now, making graduates valuable contributors in a field that keeps regional industry running and growing.
