Storm Tank Business Pitch Competition

Rio’s first-ever student pitch competition, Storm Tank, will be held on Monday, April 1, starting at 4 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium on campus. This students-only pitch competition will give students the opportunity to pitch their product or business idea to a panel of community judges and compete for cash prizes to fund their idea.

Who can participate? Only current Rio students are eligible to participate.

How can I participate? Students should send their a 1-minute video or a 1-page overview of what they plan to pitch to Cole Massie (cmassie@rio.edu) by Friday, March 22. From there, participants will be selected to participate in the live event on Monday, April 1.

Do I have to have a business running to participate? You can, but it’s not required. We will accept both operating businesses and promising business ideas.

Can I participate by myself? Yes! Students can participate in teams of up to 4, or as individuals.

What’s the prize pool? We are planning for a $3,000 prize pool, with $1,500 going to 1st place, $1,000 going to 2nd place, and $500 going to 3rd place.

What does a winning pitch look like? A winning pitch should have a clearly identified problem and a business solution to that problem. If a participant’s business is already operating, showing success and future plans would be great. If it’s an idea right now, showing how the business will operate, who it’s key customers will be, and how it will be profitable.
