Kenni Horton-Spring 2019 Spotlight on Staff Success

Kenni HortonKenni Horton currently serves as the Wood Hall secretary, providing administrative services to the students, faculty and administration of the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Arts and Letters and the School of  Health and Behavioral Sciences.

When did you start working at Rio? February 1991

How did you choose a career at Rio? I was looking for a full-time job with good benefits.

Where did you work prior to coming here? The main office & service dept in a car dealership.

What offices have you worked in? Accounting, Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, President and Provost.

What work are you most proud of doing during your time at Rio? When Wood Hall was closed for renovations, I was tasked with finding available classrooms for all of the classes offered.

What is your favorite part of your job…and why?   Registering students.  It’s always a mystery to see if the schedule will go thru first time.  If it doesn’t go thru, then it’s a puzzle to figure out the solution.

What’s the part you could really do without? Student Space

If you could the spend the day with any historical figure, living or dead, who would it be? My parents

What is your: favorite book: Swan Song by Robert McCammon

Favorite musician: I like just about everything from Jean-Pierre Rampal to John Denver to Bon Jovi to The Kingsmen Quartet.

Favorite movie: Sense & Sensibility

Favorite food:
Pizza and Turkey

If you could move anywhere, where would you go?  A private island/beach (Money is no object, right??)

If you couldn’t have a career in higher education, what would you do for a living? Play in orchestras for Broadway shows.  Maybe own a quilting shop.

What are your hobbies (outside your professional activity)? Playing music, quilting/sewing, jigsaw puzzles, reading.

What’s the one thing that most people don’t know about you?  I used to teach basket weaving and my Rio student ID starts with a -1-.
