How do you mark 5 years of Out of the Darkness Campus Walks?
Well, at Rio we’re going to light up the campus with a goal of 7500+ luminarias.
This April, join Rio for our 5th Annual Out of the Darkness Walk. This year is again going to run slightly differently due to COVID restrictions. However, we’re going to be bringing awareness to all our campuses and communities. All month long, we invite you to stop by our campus and regional centers to sponsor a luminaria in honor of someone lost to suicide, someone struggling with mental health, or show your support for mental health awareness.
On April 24th, we will host an all-day event at our main campus to help us set up. Community members, organizations, and clubs are encouraged to come and help us put out the luminaries here and perhaps even go for a world record. You may also sponsor a luminary online via the links below.

The Out of the Darkness Campus Walks are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) signature student fundraising series, designed to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide, the second leading cause of death among people ages 15-24.
Help us Light Up Rio! Sponsor a luminaria with a minimum donation of $1 to honor someone struggling, remember someone who has passed, or show support for the importance of mental health awareness.
Make a minimum $25 donation in support of student health and wellness at Rio and we’ll match it with a sponsorship of the same amount of luminarias. If you wish to dedicate your luminaria, please name(s) in the comment section.
