[Women’s Track & Field] Williams, Robinson notch wins at Denison

    GRANVILLE, Ohio – Lucy Williams and Chanavier Robinson had first-place finishes leading the University of Rio Grande women to a sixth-place finish as a team in the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University at the Mitchell Center.
    Williams, a senior from Albany, Ohio, finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:43.10, while Robinson – a junior from Ravenna, Ohio – was first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.01.
    Robinson also had a third-place outing in the long jump with a leap of 5.21m.
    Rio Grande tallied 44 points as a team to finish sixth in the 14-team field.

[Baseball] RedStorm splits with No. 15 Bryan

    DAYTON, Tenn. – David Rodriguez drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning to force home the go-ahead run and lift the University of Rio Grande to a 4-3 game one win over 15th-ranked Bryan College, Friday afternoon, in non-conference baseball action at Center Field.
    The host Lions rebounded to post a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
    Rio Grande finished the day at 4-1 after the split of the twinbill.
    Bryan was playing it season opener.

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – If it wasn't poor free throw shooting that short-circuited upset bid by the University of Rio Grande, a controversial call with the game hanging in the balance may have.
    Indiana University East rallied from a second half deficit and pulled away over the final five minutes for a 73-67 win over the RedStorm, Tuesday night, in River States Conference men's basketball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    The Red Wolves, who are ranked 15th in the most recent NAIA Division II coaches' poll, improved to 20-6 overall and 12-1 in league play with an 11th consecutive victory.
    Rio Grande, which learned earlier in the day that freshman standout Gunner Short (Catlettsburg, KY) and key reserve Raul Timoner (Alaior, Spain) were lost for the remainder of the season due to injury, slipped to 9-17 overall and 3-10 in the RSC with the loss.

[Women’s Basketball] Third quarter run sends Wolves past Rio

    RIO GRANDE, Ohio – For the second time in three games, it was a third quarter swoon which spelled doom for the University of Rio Grande women's basketball team.
    Indiana University East used a 15-0 run over a span of five minutes to take control and then held on down the stretch for an 84-78 win over the RedStorm, Tuesday night, in River States Conference women's basketball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
    The Red Wolves improved to 11-14 overall and 9-4 in conference play, completing a regular season sweep of Rio Grande in the process.
    The RedStorm lost for the seventh straight time, falling to 13-12 overall and 4-9 in the RSC.

    BEXLEY, Ohio – The University of Rio Grande men's track and field recorded a trio of top 10 finishes at Saturday's Jessica Starks Open hosted by Capital University at the CU Field House.
    Junior Dalton Duvall (Flatwoods, KY) had the best showing among the RedStorm's notables, placing fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.85m.

[Women’s Track & Field] Rio women place 4th in Starks Open

    BEXLEY, Ohio – Chanavier Robinson had a pair of top four showings, while two of her University of Rio Grande teammates recorded runner-up finishes at Saturday's Jessica Starks Open hosted by Capital University at the CU Field House.
    Robinson, a junior from Ravenna, Ohio, was second in the long jump with a leap of 5.37m and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.42.
    The RedStorm also received runner-up performances from senior Lucy Williams (Athens, OH) in the 3,000-meter run and from sophomore Amirah Strauther (Pickerington, OH) in the 60-meter hurdles.
    Williams finished in a time of 10:53.20, while Strauther crossed the line in 9.07.
    The notable finishes helped Rio Grande to a fourth place showing among the 17 competing teams with 35.5 points.

[Men’s Basketball] Eagles soar past RedStorm men

    CINCINNATI, Ohio – For a span of five minutes bridging the end of the first half and the start of the second half, the University of Rio Grande had things going exactly as they wanted.
    But on either side of the RedStorm's success, Cincinnati Christian University did more than enough damage to earn an easy win.
    The host Eagles built a 21-point first half lead and then survived Rio's comeback bid before pulling away for a 100-81 victory, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference men's basketball action at Jill Rendel Court.
    Cincinnati Christian improved to 10-13 overall and 5-7 in league play with the victory.
    Rio Grande slipped to 9-16 overall and 3-9 in the RSC with the loss. The RedStorm remained one game ahead of Ohio Christian – an 80-68 loser to Brescia on Saturday – for the fourth and final post-season spot in the conference's East Division.

[Women’s Basketball] CCU rallies for OT win over Rio

    CINCINNATI, Ohio – Just when it appeared as if the University of Rio Grande was poised to ditch its extended losing slide, Cincinnati Christian University found a way to extend its recent string of success.
    The Eagles rallied from a four-point deficit, scoring the final eight points of overtime for a 77-73 triumph over the RedStorm, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference women's basketball play at Jill Rendel Court.
Cincinnati Christian improved to 13-10 overall and 9-3 in the RSC with the win, its 10 in the last 13 outings.
    The victory also allowed the Eagles to maintain a one-game lead over both Indiana University Kokomo and Alice Lloyd College in the league's West Division standings.
    Rio Grande fell for a seventh consecutive time, dropping to 13-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
    The RedStorm have just a one-half game lead over Carlow University for the fourth and final post-season berth out of the league's East Division.

    MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Caden Cluxton had three hits and drove in a career-high six runs, while Michael Rodriguez had three hits of his own and finished with four RBI in the University of Rio Grande's 18-11 win over Brewton-Parker College, Saturday morning, in non-conference baseball action at Barons Field.
    The RedStorm, who rallied from a pair of early deficits to pick up the victory, completed a sweep of the three-game season-opening series.
    The win also represented the 800th in the career of Rio Grande head coach Brad Warnimont, who's in his 18th season with the RedStorm and his 27th season overall.
    Brewton-Parker dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

[Baseball] RedStorm sweeps pair from Barons

     MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The University of Rio Grande opened the 2019 baseball season in grand style, turning a solid pitching performance and an offensive explosion into a doubleheader sweep of Brewton-Parker College, Friday afternoon, at Barons Field.
     The RedStorm won the first game, 1-0, before posting a 13-3 mercy rule-shortened triumph in the nightcap.
     Both teams were playing their season opening contest.
