This is a two credit hour course detailing the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. Detailed instruction regarding breathing mechanisms and the control of ventilation will be taught. The student will learn transport and diffusion of gases, acid-base balance, and ventilation/perfusion. The student will be instructed about the circulatory system, cardiopulmonary equations, and hemodynamics as well as function of the renal system. The structure and function of the chest cage, mechanics of breathing, and control of respiration are also included. Course fee required. Prerequisite: successful completion of program sequence.
