Mission

The mission of the School of Arts and Letters is to provide a quality learning environment for students from our service area and beyond.

Our undergraduate programs focus on close personal attention for each of our students from a well qualified arts faculty in modern facilities. Our goal is to provide area schools with thoroughly trained teachers in the arts as well as provide students intent on a professional career excellent opportunities to develop creative processes and techniques. Further, our mission is to provide the region quality visual and performance experiences through numerous outreach programs.

Spotlight on Success

Artist in Residence Program

The School of Arts and Letters hosts artists in a variety of Fine and Performing Arts media with the generous support of the Imagine Arts Endowment. Residencies range from an afternoon to an entire semester, and engage students, area school children and teachers and community members in workshops, exhibitions, performances and recitals.

Facilities

Berry Fine & Performing Arts Center on the main campus of URG. The center features the 400-seat capicity Alphus R. Christensen Theater, a black-box theater for experimental and small-group performances, and numerous sound-proof practice rooms.

The Center houses a Steinway concert grand piano, studio pianos, harpsichords, electric organs, Orff instruments and woodwind and brass instruments, sound-proof practice modules, multi-purpose classrooms, rehearsal areas, a Mac computer lab, a studio theatre, and a photography lab. Students also have access to a recording lab enabling them to learn how to produce professional recordings.
