Welcome to the University of Rio Grande Chemistry Program homepage. Our department offers two degree options -  the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and the Associate of Science in Chemistry. Both programs have been designed to provide students with a well-rounded background in Chemistry and to provide students with the tools necessary to pursue any number of post-graduation directions. In addition, we offer a minor in Chemistry to accompany a Bachelor's degree of a student's choosing.

 

Chemistry Academic Excellence Scholarship Competition

Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Chemistry Academic Excellence Scholarship Competition. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be a new incoming freshman who has a declared major of chemistry in Fall 2019. To apply, please complete the application form here. A letter of recommendation from a current or past chemistry teacher as well as a completed Rio Grande admission application are also required. The letter of recommendation can be submitted with the scholarship application form, or it can be emailed to admissions@rio.edu. The Rio Grande admission application information can be found here. The deadline to complete the scholarship application process is Thursday, November 1, 2018.

 

Chemistry Class of 2018

The Chemistry Program is proud to congratulate our sixth class of graduates. They are (from left) Stephany Davies, Alex Nichols, and Ashlee Saunders. All three will be entering chemical industry. Congratulations to all of the graduates!

Rio Grande Students Present at Rio Grande Research & Scholarship Exhibition

Junior and senior Chemistry majors - Stephany Davies, Alex Nichols, Ashlee Saunders, and Erik Wehse  - presented their research at the annual RISE: The University of Rio Grande's Research & Scholarship Exhibition that was held on the Rio Grande campus in April. Congratulations on all of your presentations!

 

Rio Grande Student Presents Research at National Meeting

   

Chemistry major Halley Alberts presented her research at the American Society for Microbiology's ASM Microbe 2017, which was held in New Orleans in June. Congratulations on a great presentation and representing Rio Grande on the national scene!

 

Rio Grande Student Presents Research at Regional Meeting

Senior Chemistry major Chobee Sheets presented her research at the 2016 Rustbelt RNA Meeting that was held in Cleveland in October. Her poster was titled "Computational Molecular Docking of T Box Antitermination Model with Aminoglycosides". Congratulations on a great presentation!
