RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Steve Gruenberg, an assistant track & field/cross country coach at the University of Rio Grande for each of the past two seasons, has been promoted to the school's Director of Track & Field/Cross Country.
Gruenberg, who earned a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Cedarville University before adding his MBA from Rio Grande this spring, played a key role in the RedStorm signing more than 50 recruits for the upcoming school year.
His responsibilities, as they have been in the past, will continue to include recruiting, day-to-day operations, as well as coaching all sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers.
During his time as a student-athlete at Cedarville, Gruenberg spent three seasons as a sprinter/jumper. He was a member of the school's record-setting indoor 4x200 squad and still actively competes for the Darke County Track Club, of which he is the founder/director.
Prior to joining the URG coaching staff, Gruenberg coached track and girls soccer at Greenville (OH) High School. He had seven regional qualifiers in three seasons with the track team and guided the winningest season in school history during his two years as soccer coach.
His Darke County Track Club has had five athletes qualify for the Junior Olympic Nationals in Steeple Chase, 400m, Pentathlon, Heptathlon and Decathlon.
Gruenberg is also a USATF Level 1 coach, a USATF track official (officiated at the 2011 NCAA DIII indoor nationals), a USSF "F" License coach, and a USSF, NISOA, and OHSAA soccer official since 2007.
Gruenberg and his wife, Stephanie, reside in Gallipolis, Ohio.
