Festivities abound for Homecoming 2013
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – As the winds stir and the last leaves twirl about campus, the Rio Grande family prepares for the annual tradition of Homecoming.
Beginning with the Bevo Walk and Cookout on Sunday, Nov. 10 and culminating with the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 16, campus will be abuzz with the tales of alumni past and future. RedStorm and Redmen will celebrate as one the spirit of Rio Grande.
“Returning home to Rio Grande is always special, whether you still call southeastern Ohio home or make the journey from out of state or across the pond,” Director of Alumni Relations Annette Ward said. “Homecoming reminds us all of how culturally diverse our family is through a wide spectrum of events and activities all can enjoy.”
The second Bevo Walk and Cookout jumpstart the festivities at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. Organized by the Student Programming Board, the Bevo Walk started in 2012 as a fellowship activity to raise money for Esophageal Cancer research through American Cancer Society. Students collect donations and walk from the Alumni Bell Tower through campus and ending at the outside basketball court.
Participants received t-shirts from the Rio Grande Bookstore and will be treated to a cookout following the walk compliments of Multicultural Affairs.
Homecoming kicks into gear with Spirit Week beginning Monday with 80’s Day. Each day of the week carries a different theme in honor of Rio Grande’s Decade of Dreams Strategic Plan.

Friday concludes Spirit Week with Rio Day, Homecoming King and Queen voting from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the food court, and the Homecoming Parade featuring Bevo Francis as Grand Marshal at 4 p.m. followed by a pig roast.
Friday night also begins the annual Bevo Francis Invitational Tournament. The RedStorm women open the games at 6 p.m. with the men scheduled to tip at 8 p.m.
The tournament continues on Saturday with the women at 3 p.m. and men at 5. Crowning of Homecoming King and Queen takes places between games.
