Rio Grande to host Welsh poet
for heritage presentation

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Suzanne Iuppa – a poet, community worker and filmmaker based in North Wales – will present “On Track, Poems from Welsh Pilgrimage” on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College.

The presentation shares a title with Iuppa’s recent book, which was commissioned by the Arts Council of Wales and featured during the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in Wales.

“This is an opportunity to hear what it was like to recreate the 200-mile journey across south and west Wales, repeating the footsteps of the ancient pilgrims to St. David’s,” said Jeanne Jindra, Direct of the Madog Center for Welsh Studies. “It is not often we have a poet from Wales visit our area to share such rich cultural experiences.”

The event – free and open to the public – is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Davis University Center Board Room and is presented by the Madog Center and Friends of the Davis Library.

Iuppa will read from her book, share stunning video images of the journey and sign copies of her book following the presentation. Copies can be purchased for $10 each.

The poet lived most of her adult life in Mold, North Wales, reared her family in the Clywdian mountains and has been published in a variety of literary magazines in the United Kingdom and United States.
