RioNET wireless goes live!
Campus Computing & Networking is in the process of deploying a new campus-wide wireless network. This ongoing project encompasses both indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as the Meigs Center.
The project has moved forward at record pace, with only one building and the outdoor locations remaining. Once completed, campus will feature RioSecure and RioGuest networks.
RioSecure will service all faculty, staff and students. This network is secured using the latest security standards, and is designed to work with personal and campus owned wireless devices. Connecting to this network will require users to enter their RioNET username and password as they would logging into Blackboard or campus computers. In most cases, users will be prompted to accept a security certificate; personal Windows laptops will need to install the certificate from a webpage prior to connecting. Windows users must first connect to the RioGuest network and click the ‘RioSecure for Windows’ link.
RioGuest will service all visitors, and is specifically designed to work with personal devices. The passphrase for accessing this network is RioGuest and connecting will require acceptance of the Guest Wireless Acceptable Use Policy along with a valid email address.
Completed buildings include Anniversary Hall, Berry Center, Bob Evans Farms Hall, Boyd Hall, Campus Police, Davis Career Center, Davis Hall, Davis University Center, Elizabeth Davis House, Fine and Performance Arts Center, Fine Arts Annex, Fine Woodworking, Fulton House, Florence Evans Hall, Fowler House, Greer Museum, Holzer Hall, Davis Library, Kidd Math Science, Lyne Center, Maintenance, McKenzie Hall, Moulton Hall, Moulton Hall outdoor, New Hall and Rhodes Student Center.
RioNET’s firewall requires several steps of updates, each requiring a full power reset. A Maintenance Service Outage is announced for each Sunday morning from 4 to 6 a.m. now through July 7 in which the entire RioNET network will experience a full outage lasting several minutes; all inbound and outbound services will become unavailable.
Campus Computing & Networking expects a very busy May and June with major changes scheduled for our data center, moves of computer labs and Wood Hall faculty and more typical and routine summer updating.
