Finch creates Past Chairs Committee
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – When Jack R. Finch assumed the duties of University of Rio Grande Board of Trustees Chair, his focus was absolute – serve Rio Grande and its students to the best of his ability.
A 1974 Rio graduate, one of Finch’s first acts as chair was to recognize the immense, and seemingly immeasurable, contributions made by past chairs. The result was the formation of the Past Chairs Committee.
“I believe the opportunity presented itself from these visible, dedicated servant leaders continual participation in the university strategic plan,” Finch said. “So why not form a working committee to harness their experience and expertise as a group.”
The Past Chairs Committee is chaired by Gerald E. Roach, as the immediate past chair of the university Board. Other members include James M. Caldwell, Steven B. Chapman, Greg Fields, John “Jack” Kidd, Jeffrey E. Smith, Daniel H. Whiteley, Don Wood and Finch.
The collection of inspiration leaders gathered for their first meeting as guests of President Dr. Barbara Gellman-Danley at the President’s House earlier this fall.
Finch left the meeting with the utmost respect and admiration for the knowledge and experience in the room.
“Their care and respect for the university and commitment to a ‘One Rio’ says it all,” Finch said. “It’s not so much how I felt about being among these faithful ones, but the importance was to listen.
“I believe with the committee chair Gary Roach’s continual leadership at the university, there are no limitations as what to expect.”
