The University of Rio Grande will honor all local veterans and one World War II veteran in particular during a special ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The ceremony, which is being held the day before Veterans’ Day, will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the cafeteria inside the Davis University Center on the Rio Grande campus. The event is open to the public.
All area residents are invited to this special event to honor all veterans for the service and sacrifices they make for our country. Rio Grande holds a special ceremony to honor veterans every year, in order to involve Rio Grande students, faculty and staff along with community members in recognizing these heroic individuals who live in our community.
One veteran in particular who will be recognized during this ceremony for his service to his country is Gallia County resident Raymond “Pete” Kloes. Kloes served in the U.S. Army in World War II, serving in the Intelligence and Reconnaissance division. During the war, he was stationed in both Germany and France.
Kloes was wounded in action, and was later awarded the Purple Heart.
Marshall Kimmel, who is helping to organize the ceremony for Rio Grande, said that the university is proud to have Kloes attending the ceremony. He is very deserving of this honor, and Kimmel hopes a large crowd of campus and community members will attend the ceremony and have a chance to see this proud veteran and help to honor him.
The event will also honor all local veterans, and all who attend the gathering will be recognized during the ceremony.
The guest speaker for the day will be Peg Davis of the River Cities Military Support Group. Davis also works for the Veterans Affairs office, and will offer her thoughts on issues related to veterans in America today.
In addition, Rio Grande’s Grande Chorale vocal music group will perform a few songs, and the Rio Grande Symphonic Band will also perform a few selections.
All area residents are invited to attend the ceremony, and all local veterans are especially encouraged to attend and take part in the meaningful event.
It’s important to recognize and remember these individuals on Veterans’ Day and all throughout the year for the service they have given to our country. No matter when they served or where they served, all local veterans are strongly encouraged to be a part of the Rio Grande ceremony.
