RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Archie Spangler has been hired as the Director of Workforce Development for the University of Rio Grande / Rio Grande Community College.
After more than 25 years of progressive leadership experience in the business and industry sectors, Spangler, a veteran of the United State Air Force, earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management from Rio Grande in May and will serve as a liaison for further economic development throughout the region.
“I would like to thank the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College for recognizing the needs of our region,” Spangler said. “It is very easy to get caught up in the day to day issues and lose focus on your surroundings. But thanks to strong leadership and a tremendous collection of faculty and staff, Rio Grande has in place a Decade of Dreams strategic plan that is a living document designed with the goal of enhancing our entire region.”
As Director of Workforce Development, Spangler will assist businesses and organizations to develop, contract and provide customized training and education programs to assist in developing the region’s workforce needs and demands.
Spangler sees his personal success story and evolution as a testament to Rio’s Decade of Dreams.
“As a former dislocated worker, I began attending Rio in 2011. The faculty and administration provided me with one of the best educational experiences of my life,” Spangler said. “So much so, that I began saying after my first semester that I was eventually going to be a part of this university. I just didn’t realize how fast that was going to happen. I appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me; the ability to be a part of this institution and serve the hardworking people in our region.”
Spangler has previously served as Operations Manager at Masco Cabinetry (Waverly) and Engineer/Production Manager at American Woodmark (Winchester, VA), where he developed business plans and managed production operations for two of the largest cabinet manufactures in the country.
One of Spangler’s professional accomplishments was partnering with a community college to develop and train skilled and production personnel for the timely start-up of a $27 million, 33 acre manufacturing facility in southeastern Kentucky.
“The American Woodmark project was a tremendous asset to southeastern Kentucky and the surrounding lumber industry,” Spangler said. “Rio Grande’s goal through the creation of a Workforce Development Office is to assist in replicating similar projects here in our region.”
Spangler can be reached at 740-245-7325 or firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about the University of Rio Grande / Rio Grande Community College visit Rio.edu or call 800-282-7201.
