September 23, 2013

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Music fans of all ages are invited to attend the Faculty Recital hosted by the Music Department of the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The recital features 14 performances from full-time and part-time faculty ranging from classical opera to modern guitar pyrotechnics. The concert is free and open to the public at the Alphus R. Christensen Theatre within the Berry Fine & Performing Arts Center.

“We like to show the students and public that the faculty is not just educators, we’re also musicians,” Music Department Coordinator Dr. Chris Kenney said. “This is a chance to show what we can do. ... Our last recital was in 2010, so we’re overdue for one.”

Rio faculty scheduled to perform include Dr. Sarin Williams (soprano), Laramie Roush (guitar), Paul Hogue (trombone), Valerie Tanner (soprano), James “Sunny” Sundquist (piano) and Dr. Kenney (guitar). Faculty not scheduled to perform include Gary Stewart, Melanie Lawrence, Cassandra Chapman, Scott Michal and Levi Billiter.
