In Memory of Mark Gillespie

The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College Radiologic Technology Program mourns the loss of Mark Gillespie, who died on June 15, 2015.  Mark served as a Clinical Instructor at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, WV for the Radiologic Technology program from 2003 until 2010.  He also served on Rio’s Radiologic Technology Advisory Board.

In 2009, he was recognized with a Five Year Service Award for his dedication as a clinical instructor.  In addition, he received special recognition awards as a Faculty Selected Outstanding Clinical Instructor and Student Selected Outstanding Clinical Instructor during his time as clinical instructor.  “Mark was a great resource and supporter of our program from the beginning.  His Clinical Instructor duties often went above our job expectations and students remember his efforts,” said Chris Barker, Clinical Coordinator for the Radiologic Technology Program.  “Past students still ask about him when I make my site visits.”

“Mark was a great person in addition to being a fantastic Clinical Instructor,” said Tracey Boggs, Radiologic Technology Program Director.  “He was a great asset to our program.  He would not only quiz students over anatomy, but also make students step out of their comfort zone to make them better radiographers.  Mark was our first Clinical Instructor at Pleasant Valley Hospital and set a wonderful example for others to follow.  He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
