RIO GRANDE, Ohio – A lifetime dedicated to faith, family, southeastern Ohio and education has led 1974 alumnus Jack R. Finch to the head of the table.
On Saturday, June 22, the 11-year member of the University of Rio Grande Board of Trustees was officially passed the gavel, and with it the duties of Chair.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve an institution that has a focus on the learner,” Chairman Finch said. “My purpose as Board Chair is to continue upholding the principles and ideas of this great university, and insure our future remains as vibrant and successful as our rich history.”
University Board Chair is a 2-year term. Finch succeeds former Chair Gerald E. “Gary” Roach Jr.
Whether through Finch’s current position as President of Tri-State Bible College in South Point, Ohio, or his 35 years with the Chesapeake School System, the lifelong Chesapeake resident has championed education at all levels throughout his life.
Finch earned his Bachelor of Arts from Rio Grande in 1974, as well as All-American status as a member of the track & field team that led to his induction into Rio’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Finch went on to earn a Master’s of Arts from Marshall University, Master’s of Theology from Bethany, Master’s in Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary, Master’s in Education from Ohio University and an honorary Master’s in Public Service from Rio Grande.
Finch also served 9 years as President of Rio Grande’s Alumni Board, chaired Rio’s Finance Committee and was the 2005 recipient of Rio’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“Jack Finch is a dedicated alum who demonstrates a lifetime of commitment to the University of Rio Grande,” Rio Grande President Dr. Barbara Gellman-Danley said. “Servant leadership is both an honor and a time-consuming commitment. Chairman Finch served for many years as Chair of the Finance Committee, then Vice Chair of the Board, among other leadership roles. He will work closely with me, as president, all trustees, and his counterpart at the Community College to help realize the vision of Rio's Decade of Dreams strategic plan.”
