The University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College Emerson E. Evans School of Business is proud to announce it’s award winners for the 2016-2017 academic year. The school’s faculty and staff hosted an awards banquet to honor these students exceptional academic achievements. Emerson E. Evans School of Business Co-Chair Jason Winters said he is proud of these students for going above and beyond in their studies and enjoys getting to share their success with them and their families at the banquet.

“The awards banquet give us, the faculty, an opportunity to publicly recognize our outstanding students at both the associate and bachelor level,” Winters said. “It also gives the student’s parents an opportunity to meet the faculty that have been a part of their son’s or daughter’s life for the past 2 or 4 years.  It is always a special time and one that is cherished by all.”

Cherokee Ruby, a senior accounting major, said she was honored to receive an award at the banquet and is grateful for the opportunities she has experienced through the school of business.

“It’s very enlightening to receive this award because a lot of hard work went into it, and this lets me know the extra days spent studying were well worth it. I think it’s important for us to know our faculty and staff appreciate our hard work, and equally as important for them to see their own hard work producing quality results in our education,” Ruby said. “My classes at Rio have topped off a foundation to my accounting education. Having the opportunity to work in Rio’s accounting office has also given me a hands-on example to see what we learn in the classroom is what we will be doing in the field. It’s an amazing experience to be both an employee and a student.”
