Symphonic Band

The University of Rio Grande Symphonic Band consists of approximately 55-65 musicians that meet Thursday evenings 7-9 on the Fine and Performing Arts Stage.  The group performs several concerts throughout the academic year including the New Student Orientation Program,  annual Fall and Spring Concerts,  Commencement Events as well as combining with area Community Bands for concerts. Concert programming includes many band classics, Broadway show tunes, music from movies, jazz and multicultural pieces.  No audition is required for membership.

Several concerts have combined the Symphonic Band and Masterworks Chorale in a larger work that feature both vocal and instrumental soloist as well as the combined ensemble.

The Symphonic Band features one of their fine adjunct professors performing on one of their concerts throughout the year.  Mr. Dave Phillips, clarinetist, is one of the many outstanding soloist featured.

The Symphonic Band is called upon to provide music for many community events such as the annual Veterans Day program and the 9/11 memorial service.

Several community adults as well as talented high school seniors are invited to participate with the Symphonic Band for concerts throughout the year.  Almost 30% of the band is made up of these gifted volunteers.
