Cantate!

On Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 the second annual Cantate! Choral Festival was held at the University of Rio Grande.  The event was a great success!

Jackson High School's "Symphonic Choir"

Three area choirs participated this year:

  1. Georgetown High School's "Note-Orious"
  2. Cabell Midland High School's "Collegium musicum," and
  3. Georgetown High School's "Symphonic Chorale"

Cabell Midland High School's"Collegium musicum"

Each participating chorus performed 2 – 3 choral selections for our panel of clinicians, featuring Dr. Sarin Williams, Director of Choral Activities at URG, Dr. David Lawrence, Associate Provost and former Director of Choral Activities, and Mrs. Valerie Tanner, Adjunct Professor of Voice

Clinicians Dr. Sarin Williams, Dr. David Lawrence, & Mrs. Valerie Tanner

Each chorus received written comments from all three clinicians and an on-stage clinic by a single adjudicator.  Directors also left with a DVD of their day's performance and clinic.

Feedback from the event has been very positive, with students and directors alike feeling that musical growth occured as a result of the festival.  We encourage you to consider you chorus's participation in next year's Cantate!

Gallia Academy High School's "Madrigals"

To entice you, remember that this festival was specifically designed for high school madrigal/chamber vocal ensembles as a preparatory event for solo and ensemble contest in the spring.  No ratings or rankings will be given.  We assure you that our clinicians will do their best to make this event a successful musical experience, set in a non-competitive and supportive environment.
