Faculty & Staff Guide
All faculty & staff at the time of hiring will be provisioned a RioNET user account that provides authentication and access to networked resources including:
- Computer Log-in Access
- Network Access (network file shares & future wireless)
- Office 365 E-Mail (Outlook, web and mobile)
- Blackboard Learning
- Inside.rio.edu (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server)
After the hiring process is completed, Human Resources notifies Campus Computing and Networking to create the account and who shall be notified with the new account information. Typically, this is a supervisor or departmental teammate who assists the new user with their first time account usage.
Today, employee account activation involves both network log-in authentication and e-mail authentication. CC&N will create the new user account using the same username and default password. Once CC&N completes a "Federated Identity Management" configuration upgrade, users will have one authentication username & password. Today, the process involves two parts.
ACTIVATION
RioNET
To begin using the above resources, each user must activate his or her account by changing the default password to a new strong & secure password. CC&N staff may assist faculty & staff in person with password changes. Or the user can change passwords on first use of a RioNET computer, or by following an online activation process. This online method is quick and may be done via the Internet using a web browser. Please follow the following steps.
Step 1 – Know your RioNET Account:
All Rio Grande students, faculty & Staff are provided a RioNET account which provides login and authentication services for networked services. Faculty & staff usernames are typically the first name initial followed by the last name. Please reference your new account information sheet.
Step 2 – Log-in & Change your RioNET Password:
Default account passwords are based on the Microsoft Office 365 assigned temporary password. Passwords expire on first use and MUST be changed to a secure password for further use. Campus computer connected to RioNET will prompt for this password change. Rio Grande users remote to campus are directed to the RioNET WebMAIL site (http://mail.rio.edu) which includes the RioNET Password Portal (https://password.rio.edu). Password strength will be strictly enforced as a security measure and a deterrent to identity theft!
OFFICE 365 E-mail
Step 1 – Log-in to Office 365 Web E-Mail:
Rio Grande faculty & staff use Microsoft Office 365 for e-mail. E-mail addresses will be rionet_username@rio.edu. Links for e-mail log-ins are available at http://mail.rio.edu or directly from Microsoft at https://login.microsoftonline.com.
Don’t forget to use your default temporary password again for the Office 365 web first time log-in. Users will be prompted to change passwords on first time use of Office 365. A federated login-in to e-mail and other authenticated services will be forthecoming.
