BA-Music Business

The Music Business program offers a degree that combines a strong background in music, and a diverse knowledge base in business and technology. This is ideal for the student who plans to pursue business careers requiring the talents and skills of a musician, or music careers needing a firm grasp of business practices.

In addition to the student's general education, their program will include a comprehensive slate of music classes to give them thorough training as musicians. These classes will include:

  • Music Theory I-IV
  • Aural Training I-IV
  • Computers in Music
  • Conducting
  • Music History I or II

Students will select a major instrument, on which they will perform a Senior Recital at the end of their studies, and will receive a solid grounding in piano technique. The student will participate in the Music Department's performing ensembles. They will also establish an ePortfolio website to showcase their accomplishments while they are at Rio.

To give them a solid foundation in Business practices and theories, their Business core will consist of:

  • Introduction to Business
  • General Accounting Fundamentals
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Introduction to Business Law
  • Principles of Marketing
  • Introduction to Public Relations or Retail Management
  • Stage Audio

Students will participate in two Internships with which to deepen their understanding of a selected career area with real world experience.

The Music Business program is accredited by The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.
