Summer Scholars is a program that allows Ohio high school students to attend classes during the summer semester at Rio Grande - tuition free – students just pay for books and fees! Please see our FAQs for more information and also check out our list of popular classes and example fees.
It is important to remember that the student is still responsible for all other fees associated with the classes the student is taking, including, but not limited to, lab fees, technology fees, institutional fees, and books. The cost will vary depending on which class and how many classes you elect to take.
If you would like to take an English or math course, you will first need to take the Compass Placement test. This is a test required of all incoming students to determine which math and English course best fits your skill level. This test can be taken any time; however, we recommend taking is as soon as possible. To sign up for the test you should contact the New Student Advising Office at (740) 245-7279 or 1-800-282-7201 ext. 7279.
Before you register for your classes you MUST fill out an application for admission. You will then receive a tuition waiver form from the admissions office (located in the Rhodes Student Center). You must turn this waiver form in with your bill in the community college office. Without the waiver form your tuition cost will be on your bill, so this is very important. Once you complete your form in admissions you are ready to register. To make an appointment to register you can once again contact the New Student Advising Office.
Summer classes start June 7th, so we look forward to seeing you soon! Click here for the summer class schedule. If you have any additional questions don’t hesitate to call.
